Tourist spots around Ooty:

Botanical Gardens: This lush green 22-hectare gardens houses wide variety of flora. Model Toda mund(village) and a fossilised tree trunk believed to be 20 million years old are a huge attraction.
Doddabetta: Doddabetta is the highest peak (2633m) in the Nilgiris. On clear days, one can see clearly the hills and the valleys with the villages around. It is about 7 km from Ooty.
Ooty Lake: This artificial lake is popular for boating and it also offers various adventerous activities around it.
Rose Garden: Rose Garden has over 20,000 rose bushes of more than 2000 varieties.
Ooty toy train: It is part of UNESCO world heritage site of Mountain Railways of India. Also it is the only rack railway in India.
Pykara Lake: It is about 20 kms from Ooty. It is famous for boating and surrounded by beautiful forests. Nearby there are two waterfalls known as Pyakara Falls and fall from the heights of 55m  and 61m.
Lamb's rock, Coonoor: It is about 25 kms from Ooty and offers fascinating views of surrounding valleys of tea and coffee estates, lush greenery, thick forests and plains of Coimbatore.
Tea Estates: Ooty is surrounded by many tea estates and there are private operated tours that gives a tour of tea factory.


Trekking and Wildlife sanctuaries around Ooty:

Ooty is popular among trekking enthusiasts. There are many different trails of various difficylty levels going through forests, grasslands, alongside thewater bodies and rugged terrains. Some of the trails go through reserved forests and one needs permit for those treks.
Mudumalai sanctuary: It is situated around 70 kms from Ooty. As the name suggests it is one of the oldest sanctuaries in the country with exotic flora and fauna. It is home to variety of wild animals including numerous endangered species like tiger, long billed vulture, white-rumped vulture, Indian leopard, Indian elephant and others. One of the main attraction is the Elephant safari.


Tourist places nearby Ooty:

Mysore: It is about 125 kms from Ooty. It served as the capital of the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. Mysore is noted for its palace 'Mysore palace'. Mysore zoo, Sri Chamundeshwari temple, Namdroling Monastery, Brindavan Gadren, St. Philomena's church are other tourist attractions.
